How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Row of tires

When you’re driving around Boca Raton the miles can add up fast! How many miles to rotate tires, you might be wondering. A general estimate lands between 5,000-8,000 miles, but the actual mileage recommendation depends on what type of vehicle you drive and your driving habits. While your owner’s manual will tell you exactly how often you should rotate your tires, the service team at Sheehan Cadillac has helpful information about tire rotation to help you along the way.

Why Should You Rotate Your Tires on Time?

When you know how often to rotate your tires and you stick to their schedule, you’ll extend the life of your tires. You’ll also be less likely to have an accident because of uneven tire wear. As an added bonus, you’ll get less road noise, improved traction, and less overall stress on your drivetrain and tires.

How Many Miles to Rotate Tires: FWD & RWD Vehicles

Front-rear drive and rear-wheel drive vehicles are very common on Pompano Beach streets, and the 5,000-8,000-mile suggestion applies to them. However, with FWD and RWD drivetrains, there’s a unique rotation pattern:

  • FWD Tire Rotation: Flip sides when you’re moving the rear tires. The rear right tire should go on the front left. When you’re moving the front tires to the back, keep them on the same side.
  • RWD Tire Rotation: Invert the tire rotation pattern above. Change sides when moving the front tires to the back, but keep the rear tires on the same side when moving them to the front.

How Many Miles to Rotate Tires: AWD Vehicles

If you drive an all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive vehicle, you’ll likely need to rotate tires more often. Plan on every 3,000-5,000 miles to rotate tires. With these vehicles the rotation pattern is a bit more simple:

  1. The left rear goes to the right front spot.
  2. The right rear goes to the left front spot.
  3. The right front goes to the left rear spot.
  4. The left front goes to the right rear spot.
